There is something wonderfully unexpected about finding something wild in the middle of something delicate.
This watercolor brings a black bear into a dreamlike world of oversized flowers, deep blue water, drifting gold, and a rainbow stretching across the sky. His little paws break through the surface as he floats, completely at home in this strange, colorful place.
I wanted this painting to feel somewhere between a real encounter and a dream you’re trying to remember. The bear is rendered with careful detail while everything around him becomes looser, softer, and more abstract. Flowers dissolve into the water, colors overlap, and tiny touches of gold move across the surface like reflected light.
It’s playful and a little strange, but also peaceful. A reminder that the wild doesn’t always have to be fierce. Sometimes it can simply float among the flowers.
