I didn’t want to simply bring the White Rabbit to the Western Slope. I wanted to imagine what she might have looked like if Wonderland had started here.
So the White Rabbit became a white jackalope, sitting quietly beneath a Palisade peach tree. She still feels a little strange and otherworldly, but she belongs here, somewhere between the orchards, desert, and folklore of the West. The antlers give a little nod to our own mythology, while the peaches bring her firmly home to Palisade.
Part of my West of Wonderland mini series, The White Rabbit is painted and drawn in watercolor and colored pencil, combining loose color with all of the tiny details I love getting lost in.
The original is 11 × 14 inches and one of a kind.
It is also available in three small, limited-edition print sizes: 8 × 10, 11 × 14, and 16 × 20 inches. Once each edition is gone, it will not be reprinted.
