Burning
Burning is an original watercolor painting on archival BFK Rives paper, measuring 12 × 9 inches. This work continues my exploration of the Fire Horse, an enduring symbol of momentum, instinct, and transformation.
In this piece, the horse moves forward through flame, not consumed by it but formed within it. The figure carries a sense of propulsion and inevitability, as if guided by an internal force rather than external direction. Fire becomes both environment and extension, surrounding, shaping, and illuminating the path ahead.
Layered washes of pigment create a luminous, shifting surface where edges dissolve and re-emerge, echoing the instability and power of heat. The interplay between control and fluidity is central to the work, allowing the watercolor itself to mirror the subject’s intensity and motion.
Painted on museum-quality BFK paper, Burning holds both material richness and symbolic depth. It is a piece for collectors drawn to themes of transformation, elemental force, and the charged moment of forward movement.
