Of Creation
There is something enchanting about the kind of strength that doesn't need to be loud. Sometimes growth happens quietly, in the little moments when we begin to understand ourselves and find our place in the world.
Inspired by Elain from A Court of Thorns and Roses, I wanted this painting to feel quiet and reflective, but also full of life. Elain is often seen as the gentle one, but I think there is so much more to her than that. There is strength in being soft, in being patient, and in allowing yourself to grow at your own pace.
I chose to cover her eyes with the wings of a white raven, a reference to her gift as a seer. I love the idea that even without being able to see what is directly in front of us, we can still have an understanding of things beyond what is visible. Sometimes we have to trust ourselves and what we feel, even when we don't know what comes next.
I wanted the flowers and botanicals to feel as though they were growing around her and becoming part of her. The watercolor moves through soft pinks, warm peaches, earthy greens, and touches of blue, allowing the colors to bloom and blend naturally. There is something grounding about being surrounded by nature, and I wanted her to feel connected to it rather than separate from it.
This painting is part of my Of Starlight & Becoming collection, a series about finding the magic in everyday life, recognizing the strength within ourselves, and embracing all the things we are still becoming.
The original painting is 22 × 30 inches, painted in watercolor on Arches watercolor paper.
